The ancient seaport in the Sea of Marmara called Chalcedon may have been the source of the name of chalcedony. Chalcedony was one of the earliest raw materials to be used by humans for a variety of tasks such as knives, hunting projectiles, and tableware. In many cultures this stone is believed to protect traveler’s from harm and was used for talismans. Past and present medicinal beliefs are that it expels gallstones and can be used to treat fevers. In more recent history, it has been used for ceremonial purposes and in jewelry. It was used as a sacred stone by the indigenous populations of North America, promoting stability within the ceremonial activities of the tribes. The Tibetans revered it as a symbol of the lotus flower. It has also been reported to successfully provide a pathway for mental telepathy. It has also been employed for centuries for weather magic and healing illness that were connected with the weather, such as colds, sensitivity to changes in the weather or circulatory problems. It has also universally been considered to be the stone for orators.

Blue chalcedony occurs in numerous locations, but Turkey, Namibia, and Malawi are the most well-known. These locations have comparable material. Blue chalcedony ranges in color from a light mist blue (with gray tendencies), to medium blue, to a bluish violet color.

This pendant is a one-of-a-kind design. I let each stone "speak" to me as I lovingly craft a wire frame to securely embrace the stone. I start with straight Sterling Silver wire, then I create each turn and twist of decorative work with my hands and small jewelry pliers.
