Over Four Thousand Years Ago,
An Egyptian goldsmith produced a lovely and unusual necklace made entirely of wire. As far as we know, he was the first designer to use the coil principle and the first to fit coiled links together in this ingenious fashion. The links in bracelets similar to this one were used as currency.

The basic idea seems to be one that occurred to expert metal workers of many times and places, for ornaments based on the same design have been found in the tombs of the rulers of such unrelated regions of the world as Peru and Persia.
