This is a stunning piece made with an exceptional Afghanistan Lapis Lazuli cut cabochon! Grade A dark royal blue lapis with flecks of golden pyrite in the stone. Wow! I was tempted to keep this one for myself (GRIN). Lapis lazuli has timeless associations with kings and queens. In ancient Sumer, the stone was closely associated with the deities in general. It was believed that by carrrying it, its possessor bore the potent magical power of a deity, for the stone contained the sould of the deity, who would "rejoice in its owner."
Lapis lazuli is healing and soothing. Simply touching the body with this stone improves your mental, physical, psychic, and emotional condition. It is an uplifting, spiritual stone. Its deep-blue color reflects its peaceful vibrations. It is useful for relieving depression and promoting spirituality, and it is a fine meditative stone. Perhaps the most common use today is to strengthen psychic awareness. Lapis breaks the hold of the conscious mind on the subconscious (psychic) mind and allows intuitive impulses to become known. I hand selected this highly polished cut cabochon and then sat down at my jeweler’s bench to "listen" to what the stone wanted to express. This design is the result of my "conversation" with this beautiful stone being. This form of stone setting is often referred to as wire wrapping and has a long history. It is one of the only techniques that doesn’t use solder or adhesives to hold the stone. I used the highest quality 14 KT gold-filled straight wire (14/20), my hands, and small jeweler’s pliers to create each turn and twist of the design. The stone is lovingly embraced and securely held by the wire wrapping. The back of the stone is exposed so it will rest directly against your skin....also nice for those of us who like to rub stones between our fingers
This pendant measures 2" in length x 1-3/16" wide (at the widest point). It has a free swinging 14KTGF bail that should accommodate a round chain of up to 3 mm in diameter.
