This darling Silver heart necklace features a 3/4" x 5/8" heart cut by hand with a jeweler’s saw from 24 gauge *Argentium Sterling Silver sheet. I then drilled the holes and smoothed the edges with my jeweler’s files. Next I created a high shine finish by taking the heart through a series of hand sanding with progressively finer grits of sandpaper. A tiny red garnet bead dangles from the handcrafted bail.
The heart comes on an 18" sterling silver Figaro chain.
*Argentium® Sterling Silver is a new blend of Sterling silver invented in 1996. By definition, sterling silver has 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% other materials. Typically, sterling is blended with copper, which makes a nice strong and attractive blend, but it tends to tarnish easily. Argentium has the same 92.5% silver, but has a little bit of a rare metal called Germanium blended with the copper. For chemical reasons, this makes Argentium sterling far more tarnish resistant than standard sterling silver. You’ll be amazed at how long it stays bright.
